Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the fundamental concepts and principles of an AI Management System as defined in ISO/IEC 42001
- Interpret the ISO/IEC 42001 requirements for an AIMS from an auditor’s perspective
- Assess the conformity of an AIMS to ISO/IEC 42001 requirements, applying fundamental audit concepts and principles
- Plan, conduct, and close an ISO/IEC 42001 compliance audit, adhering to ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements, ISO 19011 guidelines, and other auditing best practices
- Manage an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

The “PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor” exam satisfies the requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP). It addresses the following competency domains:
Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of an AI Management System
Domain 2: AI Management System requirements
Domain 3: Fundamental audit concepts and principles
Domain 4: Preparing an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 5: Conducting an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 6: Closing an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 7: Managing an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

Certification
PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Certification Path and Requirements
Upon successfully passing the exam, you may apply for one of four professional credentials based on your level of experience. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and signing the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor
Suitable for newcomers who have acquired theoretical knowledge but lack practical auditing or industry experience.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

2. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor
Designed for professionals with a foundational level of experience in AI management and auditing.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Two years in total, including at least one year of specific experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 200 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
3. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor
The standard credential for experienced professionals qualified to plan, lead, and manage AI Management System audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years in total, including at least two years of specific experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 300 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
4. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor
The highest tier, intended for expert practitioners with extensive, long-term leadership experience in auditing AI frameworks.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years in total, including at least seven years of specific experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 1,000 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Note on Qualifying Audit Activities: To be recognized by PECB, your audit hours must adhere to best practices and typically include tasks such as audit planning, managing audit programs, drafting audit or nonconformity reports, conducting on-site audits, and leading audit teams.
General
- Certification and examination fees are included in the course fee.
- Participants will receive comprehensive course materials exceeding 450 pages, containing explanatory information, examples, best practices, exercises, and quizzes.
- An attestation of course completion, valued at 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits, will be issued to all participants who attend the training.
- If a candidate fails the exam, they are eligible to retake it free of charge within 12 months of the initial attempt.

The primary requirement for participation in this training is a foundational understanding of ISO/IEC 42001, as well as key AI principles and concepts.
