Presentation Skills

  • Deliver a pre-prepared presentation on a work-related topic of the participant's choice.

N.B. The length of each presentation varies based on the course duration and participant count; a group of eight is considered optimal.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback

Preparing a Presentation

  • Essential questions for the presenter to address in advance:
    • Why me?
    • Logistics covering what, where, when, how, and duration
    • How these answers influence the presentation's structure
  • Content structuring:
    • Research – mastering the subject matter
    • Organizing the material logically
    • Creating and utilizing complementary visual aids

Preparing the Presenter

  • The presenter’s three core communication tools:
    • Verbal – choosing precise words and avoiding slang or jargon
    • Vocal – managing tone and eliminating distracting verbal tics or pauses
    • Visual – cultivating a professional appearance, including dress code, mannerisms, and stage presence
  • Rehearsing the presentation to gain honest feedback from reliable sources
  • Strategies for managing nervousness

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts and the implicit messages they convey to the audience
  • Using the physical space to enhance the presentation experience

Presentation Skills – Revisited

  • Delivery of a subsequent presentation, allowing sufficient preparation time.

N.B. This may involve revising the initial presentation based on the detailed feedback received.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback

  • If schedule permits: delivery of an additional presentation following adequate preparation
