Requirements

  • Participants must have compiled a kernel at least once for a conventional desktop (non-embedded) Linux system.
  • Familiarity with the components that constitute the Linux userspace on a desktop system is required.
  • Ability to generate and apply patches is essential.
  • Participants must be able to explain the functions of GNU Make and Autotools, as well as identify other existing build systems.
  • It is ideal if the participant maintains at least one Linux package, either as an upstream author or within any traditional Linux desktop distribution.
  • Previous experience with embedded development is not mandatory, nor does it substitute for the knowledge of traditional Linux desktops outlined above.
