The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental examination assesses the knowledge and skills needed to create a basic SysML model of a system. This exam covers key concepts and organization of models, fundamental requirements capture and management, structure and behavior models, parametric models, allocation relationships, and the use of stereotypes. With the knowledge and skills gained at this level, along with proficiency in a suitable SysML modeling tool, individuals holding the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification should be able to effectively contribute to modeling tasks within a Systems Engineering team that employs a model-based systems engineering approach using SysML. The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification is a prerequisite for the program’s two higher levels and requires the OCSMP Model User Certification as its own prerequisite.

This examination, along with others in the OCSMP series, evaluates your ability to apply the knowledge and skills listed here within the context of a system model. As you prepare, delve deeper into each individual diagram to understand how the aspects it models can influence or impact other aspects of the system represented in different diagram types.

The OCSMP Model Builder – Intermediate examination evaluates the knowledge and skills required to develop system models using the full range of SysML features. This proficiency allows for more detailed and precise modeling of requirements, structure, behavior, and parametric constraints compared to those addressed at the Fundamental level. Additionally, this certification ensures that engineers have the necessary understanding to organize complex models, define the relationships between model elements and diagrams, and assess various aspects of model quality, including adherence to language and method constraints. The knowledge and expertise demonstrated by this certification are suitable for a System Modeling Lead on a project or top-tier team members who can independently contribute to the model or system, such as a Lead Systems Engineer. The OCSMP Model Builder – Intermediate Certification is a prerequisite for the program's highest level, the OCSMP Model Builder – Advanced, and requires the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental certification as its foundation.
